Use Private Threads for Discord Tickets
Ticket Tool can open each ticket as a private thread in one channel, such as #support, instead of creating a channel per ticket. The member sees only their own thread, your staff see all of them, and the channel list doesn't grow. It's on every plan, including Free.
Which Ticket Tool is this?
When threads are the better fit
- You hit channel limits. Discord allows 50 channels in a category and 500 in a server. Threads don't count toward either.
- You want a short channel list. Every ticket lives under one channel instead of a category full of
ticket-0042channels. - Members open tickets where they already are. The thread can sit in the same channel as your panel.
Stay with channel tickets if you rely on a staff-only thread inside each ticket, /private, or separate permissions for open and closed tickets. Those need a channel.
Set it up in four steps
- Pick a channel. Use a text channel members can read, like
#support. They don't need permission to post in it, only in its threads. - Switch the category. In the dashboard, open Categories, edit the category, choose Private thread under Ticket Style on the General tab, and pick the channel.
- Fix permissions. The checklist shows what's missing. Press Fix permissions so your support roles get Manage Threads in the channel, then save.
- Let staff know. Keep Mention support roles when a ticket opens on, or pick a New ticket alerts channel, where each new ticket gets a Join ticket button.
Setting up a new server? Run /setup, pick a template and choose Threads. Ticket Tool creates #support with the right permissions and the categories that use it.
What still works
Support flows and forms, claiming, /reply, /add and /remove, notes, priorities, transcripts, ratings, auto-close, reminders, the web dashboard and the API all work on thread tickets. Closing archives the thread, and you can lock it or remove the member as well. Thread Tickets covers the details and what works differently.
Common questions
Can members see each other's tickets? No. A private thread is visible only to the people in it and to anyone with Manage Threads in the channel.
How do staff find new tickets? Discord only lists a thread for the people in it. Ticket Tool can ping your support roles, which adds them to the thread. It can also post each new ticket to a staff channel with a Join ticket button.
Can I switch back? Yes. Change the category's ticket style back to Channel. Tickets that are already open keep their current style until they close.
Is there a thread limit? Discord allows 1,000 active threads per server. Archived threads don't count, and quiet tickets archive on their own after the time you pick.
